From May 19th to June 24th 2000 my wife, my son and I travelled to Haifa and back to Tasmania: a thirty-seven day trip, the centre of which was a nine day pilgrimage at the Baha’i World Centre. I had just completed thirty-seven years of pioneering and so this thirty-seven day trip had an appropriately coincidental length. To say that everyone experiences life differently is only to state the obvious. This is equally true of pilgrimages and in these prose-poems I am writing of my unique experiences.

Generally, pilgrims get exposed to the same itinerary in Haifa, Bahji and Akka, although that itinerary changes with the years, with the decades, and especially with the immense expansion and embellishment of the Bahá'í World Centre and its properties in the last decade or so. Pilgrims hear the same stories from their tour guides although, here too, tour guides learn much on the job. Pilgrims stay in the same or similar hotels and hostels, some five-star and some more simple and inexpensive locations. But what the individual pilgrim learns, what he experiences inside and outside, what touches his heart, what he takes away with him is highly idiosyncratic. I have written a 200+ page booklet about my experiences. Anyone interested in my account can write to me at my email address: ronprice9@gmail.com. My booklet is an expression of one idiosyncratic reality.

Hi! I’m the Community Manager of Ruba.com. We’re building a website to highlight some of the most interesting places travelers around the world have discovered. We’ve read hundreds of blogs about Israel, and we think that yours is awesome! We’d love to highlight excerpts from blogs like yours (assuming it’s OK with you of course) and to discuss other ways of tapping into your expertise if you are interested. I’m at erin@ruba.com.
Thanks! :)

I enjoy reading these pilgrimage diaries, journals and reports. It's fun to compare them with my experiences and how I wrote about them. Everyone experiences pilgrimage differently and will tell about their experiences differently. What one focuses on will be slightly different from what another focuses on, and they'll both be different from what I chose to focus on. Yet all are equally valid. Guess that's Unity in Diversity in action! And thanks for contributing to it.

One thing I did not get to do was visit the Temple land, the cemetery and the Cave of Elijah, although it turned out that the obelisk on the Temple land was visible from my room atop the Dan Panorama. If/when I return there, I shall have to visit those places.
